Educator – Space Place

Permanent Part-Time

Are you excited by the idea of teaching young learners in a science and technology environment? Museums Wellington is looking for a dynamic educator to deliver both formal and informal learning experiences at Space Place at Carter Observatory. Museums Wellington is made up of Space Place, Wellington Museum, Nairn St Cottage and the Cable Car Museum. Each attraction has its own story to share, and is unique within the Museums Wellington group. Museums Wellington celebrates diversity and community, and has a kaupapa of inclusion.

Working with people of all ages is a key feature of the job and includes activities such as talks, presentations, workshops, demonstrations and educator led tours.

A creative and fun-loving team, Museums Wellington educators share a passion for lifelong learning and we liaise with school teachers to develop and implement dynamic educational offerings consistent with one of the most-visited museum groups in Aotearoa.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication, relationship management and data management skills
  • A solid understanding of the NZ curriculum and the current education climate in NZ
  • A keen interest in science and technology
  • Experience creating and leading education activities

This is a permanent part-time position with two options to be confirmed with successful candidate – 35 hours per week during school terms (.7 FTE), or 27 hours per week, 52 weeks per year to help deliver informal learning programmes during term break.
