Te āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the position

We are seeking a highly organised individual, passionate about the arts and culture sector, to join our Visitor Experience Leadership team. The successful candidate will act as a key advisor to our Kaiārahi Wheako Manuhiri | Manager, Visitor Experience on budgetary efficiencies, opportunities for growth and support the implementation of strategic initiatives in the Visitor Experience space. They will also work alongside our Kaiwhakahaere Hāpai Whare | Site Managers to deliver staff rosters across our six sites, tackle employment matters in partnership with our People & Culture team and keep a bird’s eye view over operations at our sites and experiences. As an overarching requirement you keep a sharp eye on ensuring we bring a Māori dimension to our experiences and support the Kaiārahi Wheako Manuhiri | Manager, Visitor Experience to ensure the wellbeing, health and safety of our people and visitors alike through a zero-harm culture.

Our ideal candidate will;

  • Have experience advising, coordinating or administering exceptional visitor services hosting, touring, retail, and commercial activity.
  • Optimize opportunities to ensure a Māori dimension is at the heart of the experiences we offer, seeking opportunities to routinely speak Te Reo.
  • Partner with others to support the development of new and improved systems and practices across the suite of people management systems, including proactive recruitment strategies, improved team communication, and a best practice induction program.
  • Utilise feedback from our audiences and manuhiri to inform and insights for the benefit of organization strategic and operational planning, as well as to drive improvements for visitor services.
  • Interconnect with the wider team’s activities and leverage this to create greater audience impact and improved efficiencies for our Visitor Experience team.
  • Have experience with rostering and budgeting for optimal bottom-line focus, ensuring operational activities are aligned with our purpose and strategy, lead by the Kaiārahi Wheako Manuhiri | Manager, Visitor Experience.
  • interconnectedness of the wider team’s activities and leverage this for greater audience impact and improved efficiencies within the team. While you provide oversight of all activities you focus attention on grounded support for our front-facing kaimahi and the important mahi they deliver.

  • Strong commitment to Māori values, culture, and tikanga, with the ability to incorporate these into daily operations.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
  • Sound financial and problem-solving skills as required to advise and support people leaders and decision makers.
  • Appetite and experience in improving financial performance through a range of approaches.
  • Understands key business drivers/levers and the linkage to financial performance.
  • Commercial acumen with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to advise and write reports as required using Office 365 tools and systems.
  • Communicate and engage credibly in person and in writing, managing diversity of perspectives respectfully.
  • Build and maintain diverse networks of relationships internally and externally that are used to progress or deliver work.
  • Coach and support colleagues, imparting knowledge in a way that ensures a positive work environment.
  • Lead and implement pieces of work to a successful conclusion.
  • Use your judgement to plan, prioritise and manage work effectively.
  • Self-starter who can operate independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Placing the visitor experience at the centre of work is second nature.
  • A qualification in tourism, hospitality, business administration, or a related field would be advantageous to a candidate but is not essential.
