Experience Wellington’s Chief Executive Pat Stuart has resigned and will leave the organisation at the end of April 2020. The Board and staff acknowledge the very significant contribution Pat has made to our organisation over the last 12 years.

Experience Wellington (the Wellington Museums Trust) is a Wellington City Council Controlled-Organisation managing Council’s cultural visitor experiences including Wellington Museum, City Gallery Wellington, Capital E, Space Place at Carter Observatory, the Cable Car Museum and the Nairn Street Cottage.

Jackie Lloyd, Chair of the Experience Wellington Board says “during Pat’s tenure as Chief Executive there have been many exhibition and public programme successes as well as major facility improvements and additions to our family of institutions. She is a dedicated champion of Wellington and the wider arts and cultural sector. Pat is always looking for opportunities to improve the way the organisation operates and delivers value to the citizens of Wellington and the many visitors that come to the city.

“We have benefitted from Pat’s leadership, professionalism and deep knowledge of the sectors in which we operate. She has brought together a talented team that has shaped our visitor experiences making them integral to Wellington’s liveability and its standing as the Cultural Capital of New Zealand.”

Among many achievements Pat says she is most proud of Experience Wellington’s growing commitment to embracing Te Ao Māori as well as deepening audience engagement through community collaboration for the development of programming.  She believes that all great cities need museums, art galleries and creative places to help reflect the identity of place and people and to encourage debate and discussion on topics that are current and relevant to its citizens.

The Board will commence its recruitment process soon with the objective of ensuring a smooth transition.
