Waiata Practice
We’ve had a fantastic turnout of staff at the recent waiata practices preparing for the Hilma af Klint exhibition opening, with colleagues from across the whole organisation turning up to support each other in the lead up to this event.
A big thank you to all of you who have attended so far, particularly those who have put their hands up to join the waiata group at the opening on 03 December. If you haven’t replied yet and are able to join, please to let Olivia know at oliviaj@experiencewellington.org.nz
Will I need to wear a mask?
Our waiata singers and speakers at the Hilma af Klint opening event DO NOT have to wear masks when singing or speaking. We will ensure we have created the appropriate physical conditions to support this, e.g. safe distance between singers and audience. At all other times when not performing, please ensure you are wearing a mask.

Our Waiata Selection
You can download your own printable copy of our Te Kete Waiata booklet. Here are links to recorded versions of the main waiata we have been practicing so you can familiarise yourself with the kupu (words) and the rangi (tune).
Wheako Pōneke
Toi Ora
Te Aroha
Mā Wai Rā
Kua Rongo Mai Koe
Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi
– Note that this version DOES NOT do the upwards note on the third ‘iwi’ like Lawrence has been teaching us.
Please also take a moment to read about how many New Zealanders have learned incorrect kupu for this waiata and familiarise yourself with the correct version included in Te Kete Waiata.
